A useful kitchen cleaning checklist has three parts. Each day, clear food waste, wash dishes and wipe the surfaces you used. Each week, tackle grease, handles and the floor. Each month, check the fridge, oven and extractor filter. Print the lists below and adjust them to how often you cook. If you want help with the regular jobs, you can see the home cleaning booking form.

Set up your kitchen cleaning checklist

Keep a few clean microfibre cloths, washing-up liquid, a non-scratch sponge and a product suitable for your worktop close to hand. Use separate cloths for the sink, food-preparation surfaces and floor. Check the care instructions for taps, stone, cabinet finishes and appliances before using a new product.

Tick the tasks as you do them. A daily reset should cover what you used that day; the weekly and monthly lists catch the areas that are easy to miss. If you cook several meals a day, move the hob and splashback onto your daily list. If the kitchen is rarely used, check whether a task needs doing before cleaning it by habit.

For the best result, clear a surface before wiping it. Lift crumbs and loose dust first, then clean with a cloth and the right product. Work from upper surfaces down to the floor so you do not drop crumbs onto an area you have finished.

Daily kitchen cleaning checklist

After preparing food

  • Put food away promptly and clear scraps from the worktop and sink.
  • Wash dishes, pans and utensils, or load the dishwasher.
  • Wipe food-preparation surfaces with a product suitable for the finish. Follow the label for any food-contact surface.
  • Wipe the hob once it has cooled, especially around burner rings or the edges of an induction hob.
  • Clean fresh splashes from the splashback and the area beside the cooker.
  • Wipe the dining table or breakfast counter after use.

Fresh spills take less effort to remove than cooked-on grease. Clearing the worktop also lets you clean the surface itself rather than wiping around a kettle, chopping board or stack of plates.

Before you leave the kitchen for the night

  • Rinse the sink and remove food caught in the strainer.
  • Wipe the tap and sink rim, then dry visible water droplets with a clean cloth.
  • Check the bin. Empty it if it contains food waste that could smell.
  • Sweep or vacuum crumbs from the floor, particularly beneath the counter edge and dining chairs.
  • Spot-wipe floor spills with a product suitable for the flooring.
  • Put used cloths somewhere they can dry; replace them if they are dirty or smell stale.

This short daily kitchen cleaning routine keeps crumbs off the floor and food residue out of the sink. Drying the tap is useful if you notice mineral marks forming around its base or spout. You do not need to scrub the entire floor each evening unless it has been heavily used.

Weekly kitchen cleaning checklist

Hob, splashback and appliance fronts

  • Remove loose hob parts only if the appliance instructions allow it. Wash and dry them before replacing them.
  • Wipe the hob edges, control knobs and the strip of worktop nearest the cooker.
  • Clean grease from the splashback with a product approved for its finish.
  • Wipe the outside of the extractor hood, fridge, oven and dishwasher.
  • Clean the microwave interior. Loosen dried splashes with a damp cloth, then wipe and dry it.
  • Wipe cupboard handles, drawer pulls and frequently touched light switches with a suitable cleaner.

Cooking grease settles beyond the pan, especially on nearby handles and the extractor casing. Clean it before it becomes sticky. Check product labels before applying a degreaser to painted cabinets, natural stone or coated metal.

Sink, worktops and storage edges

  • Move small appliances and wipe the worktop beneath them.
  • Clean the sink bowl, drain area, tap base and the joint behind the sink.
  • Check the tap and sink fittings for pale mineral deposits. Treat them only with a product approved for that finish.
  • Wipe cabinet fronts where you can see fingerprints or cooking splashes.
  • Check fruit bowls and the bread area for crumbs or spoiled food.
  • Wipe the bin lid and handle.

Water sits around the tap base and along the back of the sink. A weekly check helps you catch deposits while they are light. Acidic products can damage some stone, grout and metal finishes, so do not use vinegar or a limescale remover without checking the surface care guidance.

Floor and overlooked corners

  • Sweep or vacuum beneath movable stools and around the bin.
  • Mop the floor with a cleaner suited to the tile, vinyl or other finish. Let it dry before walking on it.
  • Wipe the skirting beside the cooker and bin if it has collected grease or crumbs.
  • Check the window sill and nearby ledges for dust.

Sand and fine dust can enter a Dubai home through open doors or on shoes. Remove loose grit before mopping so it does not drag across the floor. After a particularly dusty day, use this room-by-room checklist for cleaning after a sandstorm to check the rest of the home too.

Monthly kitchen cleaning checklist

Fridge, oven and extractor

  • Check dates and condition before emptying one fridge shelf or drawer at a time.
  • Wipe fridge shelves, drawers and accessible interior surfaces as the appliance manual directs. Dry them before putting food back.
  • Check the fridge door seal for crumbs and wipe it gently without pulling or stretching it.
  • Clean the oven interior when it is cool, using the method approved for that oven and its coatings.
  • Check the extractor filter. Clean or replace it according to the manufacturer’s instructions; filters vary.
  • Pull out light, movable items to clean the worktop or floor beneath them. Do not drag heavy appliances.

These jobs take longer because you need to move items or wait for an appliance to cool. Spread them across the month if doing them on one day is impractical. Increase the frequency for the oven or extractor if you fry or roast often.

Cupboards, bin and fixtures

  • Empty one food cupboard at a time. Remove crumbs and wipe the shelf if its finish permits damp cleaning.
  • Check open packets for spills and close them before returning them to the cupboard.
  • Wash and dry the bin interior and lid according to the bin material.
  • Wipe the top of reachable cupboards if you can do so safely without climbing on worktops.
  • Inspect the seal around the sink and the joints along the splashback. Note any damage that needs repair.
  • Check inside kitchen glass for fingerprints and wipe it if time allows. Leave outside glass and balcony areas to the appropriate provider.

Cupboard crumbs and bin residue can be missed during the daily reset. Monthly checks also help you spot a damaged seal early. Cleaning removes surface dirt; it does not repair loose grout or a failing seal.

How to clean a kitchen properly without damaging finishes

Follow a simple order

  1. Clear dishes, food and loose items from the surfaces you plan to clean.
  2. Remove crumbs and loose dust with a dry cloth, brush or vacuum attachment.
  3. Clean higher surfaces, then worktops, the hob, sink and appliance fronts.
  4. Follow the cleaner’s directions, including any contact time and rinsing instructions for food-contact surfaces.
  5. Dry taps, sink edges and finishes that show water marks.
  6. Sweep or vacuum the floor, then mop it last.

Use a clean cloth as you move between tasks. A cloth used on the bin or floor should not go back onto a food-preparation surface. Routine washing with a suitable cleaner removes everyday food residue; if you use a disinfectant, follow its label rather than guessing at a dilution or contact time.

Deal with grease and limescale carefully

For fresh grease, first lift the residue with a cloth dampened with warm water and a little washing-up liquid. On older grease, use a product labelled for both grease and that specific surface. Allow the time stated on the label, wipe with a non-scratch cloth and rinse where directed. Keep water and sprays away from electrical controls and openings.

For marks on taps, try drying the fitting after use and wiping light deposits with a soft cloth. If deposits remain, check the tap maker’s care instructions before choosing a limescale product. Test any permitted product on an inconspicuous area, keep it off surrounding stone and rinse and dry as directed. Do not assume every pale mark is limescale or that every finish tolerates an acidic cleaner.

Never mix cleaning chemicals. The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre cleaning guide warns against mixing bleach with ammonia or other cleaners and advises following product instructions and ventilating when using diluted household bleach.

Adjust the checklist to your Dubai home

A kitchen that gets heavy use

If you cook daily, wipe the hob and splashback after each cooking session and check the extractor exterior every week. Households that use the oven often may need to clean visible spills sooner than the monthly check. Clean spills once the appliance is cool, before repeated heating makes them harder to remove.

If several people share the kitchen, agree who handles the dishes, bins and final wipe-down. Keep the daily list on the fridge so the last person using the kitchen can see what remains. A printed checklist works best when each item names a surface or action you can check off.

An apartment kitchen or a dusty week

In an apartment, you may need to move small appliances to reach the worktop edges, but leave heavy appliances in place. Use the Dubai apartment cleaning checklist if you want to fit kitchen jobs into a wider home routine.

After a dusty spell, check the window sill, open shelves and floor before starting wet cleaning. Pick up dry dust first. In a kitchen with condensation around the sink, dry the tap base and nearby joints more often. These adjustments respond to what you can see in your own home; the schedule is a starting point, not a rule.

Get help with the regular kitchen jobs

LUMINA offers home cleaning in Dubai by the hour. Regular kitchen tasks can be covered within the visit time, so decide which items on this checklist matter most before your cleaner arrives. Home cleaning covers inside glass only within that time; it does not cover balcony, outside or facade glass. Deep cleaning, move-out cleaning and specialist treatments are not included.

What should be included in a daily kitchen cleaning routine?

Put food away, wash dishes, wipe the worktop and cooled hob, and rinse the sink. Check the bin and remove crumbs or spills from the floor. Dry the tap if it tends to show water marks.

How do you clean a kitchen properly?

Clear the surfaces, remove loose crumbs and work from higher areas down towards the floor. Use products suited to each finish and follow the label, especially on food-contact surfaces. Sweep or vacuum before you mop.

How do you remove grease from kitchen surfaces?

Lift fresh grease with warm water, a little washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. For older deposits, check the surface care instructions before using a suitable degreaser. Keep sprays away from electrical controls and rinse where the product label directs.

How do you remove limescale from kitchen taps?

Wipe and dry the tap first to see whether the mark comes away. For a deposit that remains, check the tap manufacturer’s guidance before using a limescale product, as finishes differ. Keep the product off nearby stone and rinse and dry as directed.
